Memphis Hack Club

Our Club Goals

Here at Memphis Hack Club, we are building a community of student makers and coders. We use our skills to build each other up to become better makers and hackers as a whole! Our goal is to give you the tools to create any tech project you can think up. We try to create an open and fun learning environment where anyone with any skill level can learn to code. We will teach you how to build awesome projects such as video games and websites! We host free weekly meetings, and anyone who comes can participate and learn something new and exciting! Also, if you are new to programming, don’t worry - our workshops are very beginner-friendly and we are here to help you along the way. Memphis Hack Club is run by Blake Freeman, Philip Pounds, and our amazing club members. We strongly encourage you to join Memphis Hack Club today!

What's a Hacker?

A hacker is not necessarily someone who illegally breaks into bank accounts or steals your friend's V-Bucks. Hackers are people who see problems that need to be solved and come up with the most effective and efficient ways to solve these problems. Often these problems require an innovative mindset, technical skills, and exposure to new ideas. Many can be solved with computers or clever engineering. At Memphis Hack Club, we hope that our hackers will be innovative problem solvers and fluent in coding, problem solving, and engineering skills.

Coding and computer science not only applies to specific problems - it fundamentally teaches how to solve complex problems using step-by-step logic. Coding teaches you how to break down problems and solve them, which is why learning coding is valuable no matter what career you choose. Memphis Hack Club cards are primarily coding and engineering focused, such as creating awesome pieces of software, amazing Arduino-powered robots, and so much more!

What is Hack Club?

We are formally associated with the student group Hack Club which is an organization for like-minded student makers, coders, and hackers (Slack). Hack Club offers many unique opportunities such as AMAs with influential people in the tech space such as Elon Musk, Patrick Collison, Gwen Shotwell, and Tommy DeVoss. Hack Club also offers worldwide coding tournaments, which are a great way for students to bond and experience what it's like to hack in a team environment.
